Happy New Year! We’re counting down the hours until 2016, which is shaping up to be another amazing year for music. Check out some of the things we’re most excited for in the new year. We’ll see you in 2016.
10. New album releases
WHEN: all year!
David Bowie, Drake, and Rihanna are among those we can surely expect new music from this year. Rumor has it that artists like Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga have all got stuff in the works as well. No matter what, 2016 is looking like another stellar year for album releases.
Country fans, this one’s for you. Kenny Chesney is embarking on his Spread the Love tour this year, and he’s taking along country superstar Miranda Lambert. The two will take their show to 11 stadiums across the US, with Sam Hunt and Old Dominion on the bill as opening acts. The tour kicks off in April in Alabama and concludes in August with a huge show at MetLife Stadium in NYC.
WHEN: all year!
2016 is looking like a pretty great year for music festivals, and there are practically hundreds to choose from. Some like Hangout and Firefly have already released their lineups (and great ones at that), while others will announce theirs in the coming months. We’ve got our eye on Coachella in particular, which has already confirmed two spectacular reunions. More on that below…
Coldplay just dropped a new album, and Chris Martin and co. have already announced international dates for their upcoming Head Full of Dreams tour, so it’s only a matter of time before they reveal a trek through the United States. We’ll keep you posted when they do.
Rihanna will be bringing her ANTI World Tour to 35 North American cities this year. The North American leg of the tour kicks off February 26 in San Diego and finishes in Oakland on May 7. Rapper Travis Scott will provide support.
The Boss himself is hitting the road this winter. Kicking off in Pittsburgh on January 16, Springsteen’s The River Tour will make its way across the country to finish up in Los Angeles in March.
Black Sabbath will be hitting 35 North American cities this year for their final tour. That’s right, this is your last chance to see them live as they say farewell to touring for good. The North American leg of The END Tour kicks off January 20 in Omaha and ends in Phoenix on September 21.
Before you bash my lack of taste, you can’t argue that Biebs’ latest album isn’t totally catchy. His upcoming Purpose World Tour is expected to be one of the best of 2016. Bieber will kick off the tour on March 9 in Seattle, spending the next few months trekking across the US and Canada until concluding in NYC for two nights at Madison Square Garden in July.
2. Guns N’ Roses Reunion
Some major news hit the internet this week – Guns N’ Roses has been confirmed as the 2016 Coachella headliner. What does this mean? Rumor has it a massive tour is on the horizon, featuring a reunited lineup of Axl Rose and Slash. This is HUGE. And we’re excited.
Get ready to say ‘HELLO’ to Adele this year. We’re expecting the British singer’s ’25’ Tour to be the tour of 2016. After she cancelled her last US tour back in 2011, it’s needless to say that this time around her shows sold out pretty quickly. The North American leg of the tour kicks off on July 5 in Saint Paul, and carries on through the US and Canada through November before concluding with two nights in Mexico City.
Of course we couldn’t include everything on this list. What are you most excited for in 2016? Let us know!
